Hx711 - Troubleshooting

This page provides troubleshooting steps to help resolve common issues when using the HX711 load cell amplifier with a load cell.

Check wiring connections​

Ensure that all wiring between the HX711 module, load cell, and microcontroller is correct and secure. Refer to the manufacturer's datasheet or reliable guides for proper wiring configurations.

Verify power supply​

Confirm that the HX711 module is receiving the appropriate voltage (typically 5V) from your microcontroller. An inadequate power supply can lead to initialization failures.

Inspect the HX711 module​

If possible, test the HX711 module with another known working load cell and microcontroller. This can help determine if the module is functioning correctly or if it might be damaged.

Calibrate your load cell​

Load cells require calibration to ensure accurate measurements. Use known weights to calibrate your load cell by recording the counts at these weights and calculating the scale factor.

Check for electrical noise​

Electromagnetic interference can affect the stability of load cell readings. Ensure that the load cell and HX711 module are placed away from sources of electrical noise, and consider using shielded cables if necessary.

Implement proper data reading techniques​

Avoid reading data from the HX711 while it is actively taking measurements, as this can result in corrupted data. Ensure that your code manages the timing of data reads appropriately.

My load cell is not responding to applied weights​

  • Inspect load cell condition: Ensure that the load cell is not damaged or deformed. Mechanical issues can prevent accurate weight measurements.
  • Verify load cell specifications: Confirm that the load cell's capacity matches your application requirements and that it is suitable for your intended use.

My HX711 module is not communicating with the microcontroller​

  • Test microcontroller pins: Ensure that the GPIO pins used for communication with the HX711 are functioning correctly and are not damaged.
  • Check for damaged components: Inspect the HX711 module for any visible signs of damage, such as burnt components or broken connections.
